BRIEF HISTORY OF OKUN-OWA IJEBU OF ODOGBOLU LOCAL GOVERNMENT OF OGUN STATE NIGERIA"

” OKUN-OWA (IMESI-ISALE)

Okun-Owa was founded by “OFIRAN” who migrated from “IMESI” now “OSUN STATE” from time immemorial with some groups.

When OFIRAN was getting old “IFA ORACLE” told him to move out of “IMESI” and leave his Children at “IMESI”. It was the tradition of OFIRAN to consult the “IFA ORACLE” every five days.

“OFIRAN” left “IMESI” with ETUPE, OLUMAYAN, and many others and travelled towards the SOUTH , When “OFIRAN” reached a spot which is now known as “ORILE OKUN” the Ifa Oracle told him to stay there and he “OFIRAN” named the place “IMESI-ISALE”.

One of the groups that accompany “OFIRAN” by name “OLUMAYAN” constructed a “CANOE” which he used to convey people across the river now known as “OKO-MAYAN” (OKO-OLUMAYAN) Sometimes the Canon was disturbed by water waves as a results of which the Canoe did not go direct to the shore “OLUMAYAN ” then decided to go underneath the river in order to know the cause of the waves but he got drowned and no where to be found till today, hence the people of Okun-Owa decided to worship him as one of their “DEITIES”, This gave the founding fathers the appellation of “OKOMAYAN ALADE ERI”, “OFIRAN OBA IMESI”,.Okun-Owa people offer prayers particularly when crossing OKOMAYAN River up till today.

“THE FIRST OWA OF OKUN-OWA OSIWARAN WAS AN OFFSPRING OF ODUDUWA”

When the children of ODUDUWA were leaving ILE-IFE each of them inherited a CROWN “OWA OSIWARAN” inherited a CROWN from his father ODUDUWA and consulted the IFA ORACLE which directed him to go to his maternal grandfather OFIRAN who gave OSUNTOMIWA to ODUDUWA at ILE-IFE as BRIDE.

OSUNTOMIWA gave birth to set of TWINS for ODUDUWA Taiwo and Kehinde OSIWARAN was one of the set of Twins KEHINDE who left ILE-IFE with his people on the journey and directed by IFA ORACLE until he reached IMESI-ISALE where OFIRAN his grandfather had settled.
